Youth Event on SDGs Held in Indonesia

On 8 September 2024, a student committee from the University of Indonesia (UI), in collaboration with Soka Gakkai Indonesia, organized an event on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the UI SDGs Summit 2024. Held at the Soka Gakkai cultural center in Jakarta, the event was titled “Mission to Solve Poverty: Education is a One Stop Solution” and focused on SDG Goal 4: Quality Education.

During the summit, a “talk show” style event was co-hosted with the Pijar Foundation. Speakers included Ms. Rahajeng Amaragati Aryono, Youth Engagement Specialist at the Pijar Foundation and Mr. Akmal Abudiman Maulana, a Certified Sustainability Practitioner from the Indonesian Society of Sustainability Professionals. In the seminar that followed, Mr. Bernadus Setya Ananda Wijaya, CEO of Sucor Sekuritas, and Ms. Deepti Singh, CSR and Sustainability Consultant, sought to inspire participants to take action for the SDGs.

Participants played interactive board games, fostering engagement and friendship. The exhibition “Seeds of Hope and Action: Making the SDGs a Reality,” a joint initiative of the Earth Charter International and SGI, was also shown at the venue. The event brought together around 200 students and people from 16 universities and various organizations. Many shared that they had deepened their understanding of the SDGs and were determined to make changes on their university campuses.
