For many years, Korea SGI (KSGI) has produced and organized peace exhibitions, conducted community cleanups and promoted youth-led educational initiatives that build trust and solidarity in local communities. In 2025, the youth members of KSGI launched a digital tool to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster daily action toward a more sustainable world.
The Korea SGI x SDGs App
Launched in 2025, the new app is designed especially for young people in their 20s and 30s, but open to anyone interested. Its slogans, “A great challenge begins with one person's change!” and “I am SGI, I do SDGs,” capture the spirit of empowerment at its heart.
The app features four main sections:
- “Home” emphasizes the UN SDGs principle of “Leave no one behind” alongside SGI’s philosophy of treasuring each individual. Users can track their participation and collective progress.
- “Introduction” offers information on all 17 UN SDGs through articles, videos and resources on KSGI’s peace, culture and education activities.
- “Practice” suggests six practical daily actions—such as using a reusable bottle, local food shopping and “plogging” (jogging while picking up litter)—aligned with specific SDG targets. Users can record and sustain these practices over time.
- “My Page” allows participants to track their personal progress, earn recognition through a five-tier system (Me, Us, Everyone, World, Earth) and enjoy gamified features that make sustainability engaging and fun.
Looking Ahead
KSGI’s leaders believe the new app will become a hub for youth engagement, making sustainability accessible, collaborative and joyful. By blending the principles of Buddhist humanism with digital innovation, KSGI demonstrates how faith-based communities can make the global vision of the SDGs tangible—one person, one action and one day at a time.
