Culture of Peace for Gender Equality Initiative (CoP4GE)
—An Intergenerational Movement for the Culture of Peace
“Activating an Intergenerational Movement for the Culture of Peace” was the theme of a 2025 parallel event that gave birth to a new initiative by 11 organizations. The Culture of Peace for Gender Equality Initiative (CoP4GE) began as the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women marked the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women where the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted.
In response to our vision of a peaceful future where a movement for the Culture of Peace endures and flourishes, the CoP4GE launched its pilot program in June 2026. The program places young women and youth leaders at the center of peacebuilding. It connects global policy frameworks—including UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security—with meaningful action in communities.
Building the Culture of Peace
We believe that the Culture of Peace can help strengthen the Women, Peace and Security agenda by placing prevention at the heart of peacebuilding.
Lasting peace requires more than responding to conflict. It calls for addressing the root causes of violence, challenging inequality, and creating spaces where people can resolve differences through dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect.
By engaging young women and youth leaders, CoP4GE seeks to nurture a new generation of changemakers committed to advancing gender equality.
CoP4GE Ambassadors Pilot Program
Over a five-month pilot program, from June to October 2026, our first cohort of Ambassadors have developed practical skills in human rights education and gender equality, advocacy and engagement with the United Nations, and community organizing and grassroots peacebuilding.
With mentorship from experts and practitioners from women-led and feminist organizations, Ambassadors have translated their learning into action, strengthening their ability to lead change in their communities and contribute to the Culture of Peace.
