  • Environment & Sustainability

The SGI-Philippines Youth Division held its annual Earth Action Day on 27 April 2025, promoting awareness of the need to protect and preserve life and the environment. This event brought together university and high school students determined to make a tangible impact on their communities. Around 400 youth members in different areas in Manila, Cebu, Samar, Cagayan de Oro and Davao participated in the event under the theme, “Soka Youth: Allies of Nature, Let’s Take Care of Our World.”

The activity supported and advocated for the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the banner “Towards 2030: Achieving SDGs through Sustainable Human Behavior.”

One of the local activities was a community clean-up drive in Escolta, Manila, which was supported by Barangay government officials because it coincided with the national government’s campaign for a clean environment and tackling waste pollution.

Youth members in both Cagayan de Oro and the Visayas region participated in mangrove planting activities, which aim to protect coastlines from erosion and storm surges as well as biodiversity.

As the event’s educational component, the "Seeds of Hope and Action" (SOHA) exhibition—a joint initiative of SGI and the Earth Charter International—was held at the SGI-Philippines Manila International Peace Center in Escolta, Manila. The exhibition showcases inspiring stories and possible solutions for environmental challenges.
