From 5 to 7 November 2025, SGI representatives participated in the International Conference on Earth-Humanity Reconciliation: Towards Ecological Civilisations Through Plural Pathways in Suzhou, China. Organized by The Club of Rome and hosted by the Shanghai University of Engineering Science, the conference brought together leading thinkers, scientists, policymakers and practitioners to explore how humanity can thrive within the ecological limits of the planet.
The conference was held as part of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033). On November 7, Joan Anderson, Senior Coordinator for Peace and Global Issues of the SGI, moderated the parallel session titled “Water – Food – Environment Nexus”, which examined regenerative and integrated responses to environmental pressures on water resources and food supplies. SGI’s connection with The Club of Rome began in the 1970s, when then Soka Gakkai President Daisaku Ikeda held a dialogue with cofounder of The Club of Rome Aurelio Peccei. Their conversations on shared global concerns were published as Before It Is Too Late. In 2024, SGI and The Club of Rome launched a joint initiative titled “It’s Time for a Human Revolution” alongside The Club of Rome’s Fifth Element program, with activities focused on youth engagement, research, and shared dialogue on societal transformation.
