In September and October 2022, the SGI/ICAN anti-nuclear exhibition “Everything You Treasure — For a World Free From Nuclear Weapons” was showcased in three different regions of Japan (Miyazaki, Gunma and Osaka) for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 14,750 local citizens, including educators, artists and media, visited the exhibition held at public venues in the three respective regions. Hideaki Miyata, Professor Emeritus at Setsunan University, attended the opening ceremony in Osaka. He expressed his hope that while the world is currently at its highest risk for the use of nuclear weapons since the Cold War, now is the time to build momentum for the complete abolition of nuclear weapons and to create a future where our children can live without any threats or fear.
The exhibition addresses the issue of nuclear weapons from 12 different perspectives, including environment, science and gender, which helps bring the topic closer to home for participants. Many visitors commented that, through the exhibition, they could understand that the nuclear weapons issue is not distant but instead closely related with our own daily lives and other critical global issues, such as climate crisis and gender equality.
