SGI's Working Papers Submitted to the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty Negotiations
By resolution 71/258, the General Assembly decided to convene in 2017 a United Nations conference to negotiate a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination. These negotiations concluded on 7 July 2017 in New York, when 122 states voted for the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
To contribute to the negotiations, SGI submitted the following two working papers:
- "On the Objectives and Significance of Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons" (A/CONF.229/2017/NGO/WP.8), submitted 23 March 2017
- "Comments and Proposals for the Draft Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons" (A/CONF.229/2017/NGO/WP.25), submitted 6 June 2017
