Women's Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons

During the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, the Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons and Soka Gakkai International co-organized a virtual parallel event “Women’s Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons” to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to share information and inspiration for making people's voices heard for creating a world free of nuclear weapons.

Moderated by Monica Willard of United Religions Initiative and Anna Ikeda of SGI (both part of Voices), the event highlighted the annual Nuclear Prayer Day (6 August) as an opportunity for global action.

Speakers were Ela Gandhi (Gandhi Development Trust and Phoenix Settlement Trust), Kehkashan Basu (Green Hope Foundation), Kathleen Burkinshaw (author of T_he Last Cherry Blossom_, and daughter of a hibakusha), Audrey Kitagawa (International Academy for Multicultural Cooperation) and Susi Snyder (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons).
