About the film
The film, created in 2011, also shows the significance of United Nations instruments and frameworks such as the World Programme for Human Rights Education (2005-ongoing) in advancing implementation of human rights education. “A Path to Dignity” includes interviews with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the President of Costa Rica, a country that has been playing a crucial role in promoting human rights education and a culture of peace, especially within the United Nations.
Soka Gakkai International (SGI), Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) jointly produced this film as a tool to raise awareness of the positive role that human rights education can play in fulfilling human rights.
Production of the film began in 2010, in anticipation of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training eventually adopted by the General Assembly on December 19, 2011.
