On 14 June 2019, the 13th Annual International Conference for Education and Democratic Citizenship, titled “Education for human rights and citizenship: The challenges of intergenerational justice,” took place at the University College of London. This conference aims to support their research programs in the interdisciplinary fields of citizenship, education and democracy. Academics, students and civil society representatives attended.
Elisa Gazzotti of SGI presented a poster titled “Reimagining Human Rights Education: Bridging UN Initiatives and Daily Realities.” Based on SGI’s philosophy of inner transformation, the poster addressed the following themes: how we can build an authentic culture of human rights, why we need to reimagine human rights education and what role young people play as actors of change. Gazzotti currently serves as the Co-chair of the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning in Geneva.
