Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai Launches Online Exhibition on Climate Action

  • Sustainability & climate change

On 25 September 2021, the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai launched the “Heritage of Life” exhibition at an event on climate action co-sponsored by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, prior to the pre-COP26 meeting held in Milan. The organization also participates in the Forum for Sustainable Development developed by the Ministry with the goal of engaging in ongoing dialogue with civil society on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The exhibition includes quotes from environmental activists and examples of positive initiatives by citizens. It emphasizes the importance of each individual acting as an agent of change, and is part of the “If I change, the world will change” campaign launched by the Institute in 2020 to contribute toward concretizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the opening, video messages were introduced from Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, President of the Episcopal Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the Italian Bishops Conference Monsignor Derio Olivero, and Assistant Director General of Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Maurizio Martina, among others.

On 2 October, the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai made a further presentation of the exhibition during the Festival of Sustainable Development promoted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS). The exhibition can be viewed online.
