On January 19, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Westside Coalition held its 41st annual celebration honoring Dr. King’s life and values under the theme “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” at the John Adams Middle School Performing Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA. SGI-USA participated as a key partner, alongside local organizations, public institutions and faith communities. The event included interfaith prayers as well as reflections, poetry and music by youth inspired by Dr. King’s principles of nonviolence. 

Participants joined in singing “We Shall Overcome,” paying tribute to civil rights pioneers. Emmy Award–winning producer and reporter Bonnie Boswell, a member of SGI-USA, gave the keynote address,  highlighting the unseen work that sustains social progress. The event reaffirmed a shared commitment to fostering understanding, encouraging youth and advancing peace. The SGI-USA is a longtime key partner and previous host of this annual event.
